Wandsworth’s London Borough of Culture bid is in!

Wandsworth Council is leading the whole borough in a bid to win the title of London Borough of Culture 2025.

Update 30 November 2023

We’ve done it together!

After six months of listening to hundreds of creative venues, community organisations, businesses and residents of all ages, Wandsworth has entered its bid for London Borough of Culture 2025.

As the first London borough to publicly announce its culture campaign in June, we have been able to consult thousands of local people and gather a wide range of views to help shape our bid.

“We’re excited to announce that our bid to be London Borough of Culture 2025 has been submitted to the Mayor of London. I’d like to thank everyone who has shared their views and given their enthusiastic support to our bid. I really believe that whatever the outcome, we have already become a stronger and better-connected community during this participation process.” – Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council

With an ambitious plan to improve access to culture for everyone across the borough, this is the first time Wandsworth has entered the London-wide competition.

Wandsworth’s bid aims to use the power of culture to drive positive change for local residents and organisations, connecting people and improving wellbeing.

The Mayor of London will announce the winning borough in March 2024 ahead of the year of culture beginning in April 2025.

There’s still time to tell us about your favourite hidden gems and local heroes – take part in our online survey and find out more at wandsworth.gov.uk/culture

Our bid will build on the fantastic creativity found throughout the borough, from award-winning cultural organisations to freelance creatives and grassroots community groups.

Wandsworth is home to vibrant neighbourhoods and a thriving arts scene, and we want to showcase our borough’s culture to London and the world.

Throughout this summer and autumn we’re listening to residents, community and voluntary groups, arts organisations, schools, businesses and other groups to help shape our bid.

Get involved by completing our online survey and telling us what you love about Wandsworth. By taking part in the survey you will also be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to Gabrielle and Special Guests at Battersea Park in concert on Monday 28 August, thanks to Enable Leisure.

From dance and music to food and heritage, there are so many ways that we all experience our own culture and other people’s. Let’s do this together!
