Biography / Artist statement

Monette is an artist working primarily with glass. She holds a degree from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and a masters from the Royal College of Art both specialised in glass. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and have been selected for and won several prizes at the British Glass Biennale.

Monette explores the idea that what we perceive as beautiful in nature is linked to the conscious or unconscious recognition of underlying patterns and structures in the natural world.

Drawing on the imagery and wonders in the world around us, Monette examines the concept of beauty by exploring molecular structures, nanoscales and mathematics as the foundation for her work. Each piece is a reflection of the living world and her aim is to highlight the splendour of nature.

Her current work is influenced by the underlying structures of corals: their shape, growth and movement in the sea. Monette explores shape and texture through different kilnformed glass processes adding layers of complexity throughout, working with light and shadow to give the work a further dimensions.
