Biography / Artist statement

For Matt Shaw developing creative, playful and immersive spaces is central to his practice. Throughout his career he has had the privilege and pleasure to work for and in a wide range of prestigious and groundbreaking organisations including Tate, V&A, IKON, GOSH and National Gallery, where facilitating the playfulness and creativity of others and making the arts accessible to all has been key. He has also worked with schools, galleries, hospitals and communities across the UK and overseas.

Matt Shaw's practice is predominately materials driven and much of his work, either in the studio or with others, focuses on exploring the many possibilities and combinations of simple materials. Exploring materiality as a process, where no specific outcome or result is looked for, is a central theme throughout all his work.
