Leigh Jenkinson
Biography / Artist statement
Clay is a way to express my joy and trauma. I focus on intensely personal themes and then use the work to create a narrative relatable to a wide audience. My subject matter revolves around social issues and in particular the systems that still hinder the progress and development of women. Often, this manifests in bringing hidden topics, or unsaid suffering into the public space. I combine throwing and sculptural techniques, depending on what method will deliver the best results for the meaning of the work. I also push myself to find hidden levity and humour in each dark moment.
