John Izatt-Lowry
Biography / Artist statement
Johnny’s work looks at the world seen from a strange distance. Each image is created by a combination of internet searches and recollection or imagination and is then laboriously recreated through the application of thin layers of pigment on stretched crepe fabric. The works become exercises in making the familiar feel unfamiliar. His subjects are often straightforward and everyday - a bird, a chair, a field - things which we may feel comfortable with, and yet take on a dream-like and mysterious nature through subtly disquieting compositions and an ambiguous materiality and physicality.
