Biography / Artist statement

Namatovu is a British design and accessories brand with African influence founded by Gee Elliott after moving back to London from rural Uganda.

Born out of Gee's passion for East Africa and sustainability, coupled with her love of the vibrancy and depth of African kitenge (fabric), Gee began making facemasks in her attic during Covid-19 from the mountains of beautiful kitenge she had collected from small Ugandan businesses over the years. With the sale of each facemask set, a visor is then donated to a frontline worker in Uganda. The brand has grown organically to now include a range of vibrant yet timeless accessories which are stocked across various independents in London with each piece named after a key worker in Uganda and UK.

Founded on a strong belief in sustainability and slow fashion to last beyond one season, all of the collections use fabric handsourced in Uganda and are designed and handmade by Gee herself with the signature N dress created in partnership with designer tailor, Natalie Nwohia.
