Biography / Artist statement

Fée Uhssi is a Wandsworth-based, Paris-born, Franco-Nigerian ethical fashion designer, artist, art & colour therapist, wellness coach, and community activist. Fée defines herself as a Fashion and textile Artist but she really is a multi-disciplinary artist who loves to explore and try new things, she draws, paints, and creates collages and visuals, and plays with different forms of textile arts and designs. She also loves to collaborate with like-minded creatives and artists and put together events to promote creativity and diversity. Over the past few years, she has been inspired to explore new media and open her practice and horizon to become a multi-faceted artist. Fée designs clothing, jewellery, and accessories inspired by her passion for textiles and in particular traditional textiles from Africa, and all around the world. She creates concepts around her designs such as photography, videos, installations, fashion and art shows, and performances. Everything that she does, makes, or creates aims to promote her values which are unity in diversity, positive body image, ethical values, and sustainability. A big part of her works aims to highlight and promote African art heritage. Her passion for African Art and African textile art has inspired and led her creative direction in terms of fashion and textile design. Inspired by traditional wraps and the art of wrapping from Africa first but also Japan, she created the At of Fashion Wrapping or How to wear and style wraps to create ephemeral outfits and infinite style possibilities. Her "Inféenie" collection is a versatile yet timeless capsule collection in constant evolution offering multifunctional, convertible, and reversible garments that offer an infinity of style options. With sustainability and timeless elegance in mind, Fée Uhssi designs garments and accessories with a strict zero-waste approach and aim to produce everything with transparency and a lot of love. Fée aims to create clothing that will be loved and last long to be worn and re-worn. Her ultimate aim is to empower her customers by providing a personal bespoke service and by incorporating the principles of colour therapy in her design process, she also aims to challenge fashion dictates such as sizes and promotes body positivity and diversity. Fée aims to create wearable art and ethical luxury. Fée Uhssi is also a fervent believer in the healing power of arts and regularly offers workshops, events, and experiences to promote wellness, and better mental health through creativity. Fée is passionate about empowering others and bringing people together. She loves to contribute to empowering other women and mothers, promoting sisterhood, community spirit, and unity. In 2022 she started a women's group for women of Battersea and now Wandsworth to nurture wellbeing and mindfulness through arts offering wellness mini retreats and art trips.
