WAOH re-imagined for 2020

The first two weekends in October is historically when Wandsworth’s artists and makers open their homes and studios for local people to discover the artistic talent they never knew was on their doorstep.

Wandsworth Artists’ Open House (WAOH) is an annual event that shines a light on Wandsworth’s abundance of creative talent and makes art open to everyone. With every venue free to visit, all art enthusiasts – from culture junkies to the simply curious – can enjoy art in a relaxed setting and connect with a community of artists and makers in their neighbourhood. It’s a rare opportunity to speak directly with the artist, learn about how they make their work, and see where creative magic happens.

In light of COVID-19, however, 2020 has presented unusual circumstances that means we can’t celebrate in quite the same way.

So that we can continue the WAOH ethos of celebrating our local arts scene, whilst also responding to the ‘new normal’, we have developed the Wandsworth Art website into a new platform.

We have launched a Profiles area to showcase the extraordinary artists, designers, makers, creative producers, organisations, groups and projects that are based in or from the borough. As always, you can expect to see all art forms, including painting, printmaking, jewellery, photography, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, filmmaking, literature and poetry.

Residents and visitors will be also be able to enjoy these artworks on high streets throughout the borough via a new programme of works called Framed. To have your artwork considered for public display all you have to do it set up a profile and let us know where you, your studio or place of work are based in the borough.

WAOH has always been an exciting, bustling and joyous occasion in Wandsworth’s arts calendar. To celebrate here’s a little look back at some of the previous Open Houses.
