Suzi Morris
Biography / Artist statement
Inspired by the medical science of our time, Suzi Morris’ paintings testify to an engagement with the inherent and unpredictable qualities of oil paint and an embodied inquiry into the constitution of meaning in human experience. Living with the ordeal of a lifelong medical condition has led Morris to explore the wider concerns over advances in DNA sequencing and regenerative medicine at Imperial College, London. While the works begin with colour, over time the addition and removal of multiple layers of paint and glaze act as tropes of the creative process, leaving behind an uncanny culmination of thoughts on the body at a cellular level. Scottish born Suzi Morris lives and works in London. Awarded a scholarship from Kingston University, she went on to undertake an MA in Fine Art at the City & Guilds of London Art School in 2013 before receiving a bursary award by Schmincke German Paints and Da Vinci Artist Brushes in support of her completing a Professional Doctorate in Fine Art at University of East London in 2017. She co-founded the Da Vinci Artist Residency Award for emerging painters and has work held in private and corporate collections in London, Los Angeles, Turkey, Thailand, Hungary and Germany.
