Biography / Artist statement

After a long career in the fashion industry, Sue Gunn started her artistic journey at Putney School of Art, where she gained a Diploma in Art and Design in 2016. After several beginners classes in pottery, she discovered a fascination for clay. She gained a Distinction in HND Ceramics at Morley College.

Patterns that veins and arteries make within the body, nature and the environment are themes that often appear in her work. There is an ambiguous crossover between nature and the human form. Her sculptures echo arteries in the human body but also reminiscent of bone, shell and fossils found in the natural world. Her functional tableware features hand painted designs, every one is unique.

She will be showing her work at Borough Gallery from 19th-22nd July with eight other graduating ceramicists from Morley College HND ceramics 2020.

Why do you love Wandsworth?

We are so lucky in Southfields to be near the green spaces of Wimbledon Common and local parks and yet benefit from great transport links to the centre of London. We have great schools, fantastic independent restaurants and shops on our doorstep and a friendly, active, inclusive local community.
