Biography / Artist statement

After studying Textile Design, I worked in the world of fashion forecasting in London for three years, and later as a designer/buyer in Sydney for a further two. Once back in the U.K I set up a textile studio in Bermondsey. Six years on a change of direction led me to work as an art editor and designer for a card publisher for 12 years. Having moved on from the field of publishing I joined forces with a Graphic Designer to build up a design company: ’Sweet Dimple’. It specialises in personalised gift products. Sales come direct and also via the successful Not On The High street’ platform. Running this business over the last 8 years has given me the flexibility to dedicate more time to developing my personal artwork. Currently I attend a mixed media class in Holborn which has ignited my imagination and enabled me to branch out from commercial design. I am embracing new print and paint techniques, drawing from my background in textile and graphic design and developing a variety of fresh print effects. The catalyst to my move into Fine Art came from the cellar in my house: unearthing a massive collection of my life in photographic form which I discovered in an ancient filing cabinet. A leaking victorian pipe had slowly transmogrified old letters, photographs, drawings and postcards. Images had unfurled themselves like layers of skin, taking on an eerie, translucent quality. Decaying artworks, personal letters and photography had randomly fused together and were almost indistinguishable from their origins. Utilising this found form, with application from my prior experience in design as well as experimental techniques such as cyanotype and photo transfer I have created a body of work that I am passionate about and that continues to grow and expand.
