Biography / Artist statement

Natalie paints in watercolour, acrylic, mixed media, and more recently oil and soft pastel. Her intent is to create atmospheric works, conveying a connection to a place she has recently visited. Relying on sketches, memory and photographs, she paints in the studio, or en plein air, when time and weather allows. She works part-time and is mainly self-taught. She goes on regular art courses to keep learning and improving, and spends much of her spare time drawing and painting. She has exhibited at the Mall Galleries and the Royal Academy summer exhibition. Education: After studying Art at A'Level at school she went to the University of East Anglia to study Art History and Architecture, which was a fantastic experience in understanding the history and trends of painting through time. After attending a summer weekend painting course in 2011, she started painting more seriously after a very long break in between her work commitments. In 2019 she started working part-time and since then has been able to pain much more in between her work within the NHS. Favourite artist - so many, but probably the Scottish Colourists are my favourite, on a par with the French impressionists, especially Claude Monet. Ken Howard, Joan Eardley, Singer Sargent are others who are totally inspirational. "The light constantly changes, and that alters the atmosphere and beauty of things every minute" (Monet) "The most precious thing we have as painters is our own language. It needn’t be revolutionary, but it must be personal to you and then it will be unique and precious."
