Biography / Artist statement

Matthew Dowell was born in Sunderland, UK in 1994. He studied Fine Art at Kingston School of Art (2013-16) and Print at The Royal College of Art. He was shortlisted for the Gillian Dickinson North East Young Sculpture (2019) and is the recipient of the Stanley Picker Print Tutorship (2021). Recent exhibitions include 'London Grads' (Saatchi Gallery), RCA Graduate Show (Kristin Hjellegjerde), 'Beyond the Frame' (Orleans House Gallery), 'In Review' (Southwark Park Galleries) and '2020: Insight' (Soho Revue).

Why do you love Wandsworth?

I love that it's easily connected to London but still has a strong borough identity; its great parks, its sense of community, its markets (go Tooting!) and its low council tax of course!
