Biography / Artist statement

Margaret Carty is a textile artist. She takes original photographs and digitally manipulates them to create Tessellations. As the images are abstract, the patterns that evolve through her process reflect her individual and personal way of viewing the world, creating a fusion of both African and European culture, which her work is inspired by. Margaret Carty was introduced to and taught Tessellations by a mathematician and later became fascinated by the endless possibilities it offered. With a background in Upholstery and Home furnishings, she was able to seamlessly visualise patterns on fabric wallpapers and as stand alone pieces of art.
