Biography / Artist statement
Marcy Richardson is a British-Canadian artist, working in multiple mediums, including painting and printmaking. Marcy’s work was recently on display at the Royal Academy of Arts in the ‘Summer Exhibition 2021’, and the Southbank Printmakers Gallery, and is currently showing at Hastings Contemporary as part of the ‘A Generous Space’ exhibition. Marcy’s work is inspired by why we feel affinity to certain people, objects and places. She explores these constantly changing relationships and what they represent to us based on our background, experience and time. An object’s purpose and function in the world can be multifaceted and have different dimensions. Such objects can be many things as they journey through time and space and through our encounters with them we may gain some insight into their mysteries. Marcy’s expressive portraits are mainly from life however she can also work from photographs for commissions. Marcy is a final year Diploma student at Putney School of Art and Design and works from her shared studio which overlooks The River Wandle.
