Biography / Artist statement

Lynne Russell is an illustrator and fine artist. She has illustrated many children’s picture books including her current book, ‘Stinky-Dog...Where Are You?’ She also gives school visits in London with readings and art workshops.

Her most well-known children’s book is 'One Smiling Grandma', which was nominated for the Kare Greenaway award, exhibited in New York City as part of the Society of Illustrators ‘Best of Children’s Picture Books’ exhibition, and on the SATs list for two consecutive years.

Working from her studio overlooking Clapham Common, Lynne produces paintings that are full of colour, joyful and skillfully executed. She works in oils, acrylic or watercolour depending on the project, and undertakes portrait commissions. She holds a Fine Art degree from Wimbledon School of Arts and undertook post graduate studies in Illustration at St.Martin’s School of Art.

Although born in the UK with mixed heritage, Lynne lived as an artist-in-residence in Mexico where she painted the indigenous population of Oaxaca and Chiapas. Numerous exhibitions include venues in Mexico, Mayfair, and Miami, where Lynne showed a large collection of Venice Carnival paintings during Art Basel.
