Biography / Artist statement

Jane Bain is a screen printer who specialises in variable mono screen prints: a number of prints that are similar - from the same series - but all slightly different. Each print is unique. Jane paints directly onto the screen, creating layers of depth and texture. The application of colour and techniques can be controlled to a certain extent, but the process involves an element of randomness when the final piece is drawn for the screen.

Jane is inspired by childhood memories, Asia (where she lived for six years), old pieces of china, nature, and most importantly fruit and veg. Jane is currently working on a series of prints inspired by the ocean and fish.

Jane creates prints, greetings cards and textiles as well as teaching screen printing.

Why do you love Wandsworth?

Its ethnic, cultural and architectural diversity. I love running and walking along the river and its amazing green spaces.
