Biography / Artist statement

Jan Shand is a semi abstract landscape painter, who works with oil and cold wax to create paintings that hold a deep sense of place,an inner response to being in the heart of the land Her work hangs between the literal and the abstract, and is made up of layers of oil and wax that are drawn back into during the process . She thinks of it as reverse archeology for as each layer goes on a fuller, richer painting emerges.
