Biography / Artist statement

Ida Nissen, b. 1986 lives and works in London. She studied at Valand Academy in Gothenburg, Sweden and The Royal College of Art in London. Her work has been shown widely in Europe including: Galleri Image, DK, Somerset House, Photo London; European Parallel Platform: Lisbon, Lodz, Zagreb; Entrée, Bergen, Skape Gallery, Seoul, KOR; Sirin, Copenhagen, DK. She was recently nominated for CO Talent Award 2021 and is currently working on her forthcoming book with the publisher Lodret Vandret, DK.

Ida uses photography as a material that lives through the energy of colours, textures and the feel of the surfaces. Often in display of images and collages of photographic paper exposed to light in the colour dark room, her most recent work is weaved together of elements influenced by memories, poetry and traditional craft making and interest towards in-between-spaces of the hidden and revealed.
