Biography / Artist statement

Estate Art was set up as a voluntary project to help Roehampton residents express themselves through art and have an outlet from the mentally exhausting repercussions that the coronavirus pandemic is having on individuals' mental and physical well-being.

The group comprises a number of artists and continues to grow in size – if you are local to Roehampton, the group warmly invites new members. Some of the artists are listed below.

Lynne Capocciama has lived in Roehampton for 25 years, and loves the area and its community spirit. Through the pandemic she has seen first hand the mental impact Covid-19 has had on individuals. Art gives Lynne an outlet that blocks out the negative and gives her a space to be positive. She works with acrylics, oils, and pastels.

Chrissy McCarthy has lived in Roehampton/Putney Heath for over 30 years. She is 70 years old and creates multimedia work. Roehampton has a special place in Chrissy's heart and notes that since the Covid-19 pandemic everyone has pulled together and people have been amazing.

Saffron Foss is a mother of two who works in a local academy teaching mathematics to learners with SEN needs. Having always loved art for its therapeutic qualities, Saffron loves to draw from nature but also from memory, and works with oils and acrylic, pastels and ink.

Why do you love Wandsworth?

The open spaces, such as Putney Heath, and most importantly the multicultural community, whose inclusive support for each other has truly shone through during the pandemic.
