Biography / Artist statement

Inspired by the raw emotional energy and gestural mark making of abstract expressionists, Anuj's art explores human thought. Paintings emerge as colour romances the canvas with a desire to express the universality of basic emotions and the human response to all that is around.

Anuj is self taught and their works are visual expressions of their own curiosity and an honest inquiry into life; both as an active participant and a silent spectator. While Anuj experiments with different mediums (acrylic, charcoal, enamel), their preferred medium is oil. Oil gives the work texture and the layering of paint, a sense of tactile physicality.

Based in London for more than two decades, Anuj remains a student of multiple art forms (literature, theatre, painting) and has recently published a book of poems in Hindi language.
