Alice Morgan
Biography / Artist statement
Art dominated in our household growing up, so my interest probably began before I could talk. My father, mother, grandmother, older siblings and brother-in-law all painted, made prints and talked about art all the time – and still do.
Now, I’m a digital marketing professional and – while I love my job – I acknowledge I have a serious art habit on the side. I spent years not having the time to devote to art, choosing instead to doodle in my work notebook. The turning point came about five years ago when I decided to enrol at Putney School of Art and Design. I initially wanted to do lino printing because that’s what I already knew. But they didn’t offer that at that time and so I decided to learn etching. I never looked back. The great thing is we now have a small lino press in the studio and I’m getting back into that too.
I love to make art from everyday things I see around me: onions or figs in the kitchen, flowers from the garden or things I see that I photograph on my iPhone. In October 2018 I had my first real exhibition as part of the Wandsworth Artists' Open House initiative and it was a wonderful experience for me. A real validation of my work – all the more so because it came as such a surprise. I loved it, so I did it again a year later and was delighted to see some of the same people coming back for more.
