Colourful Paintings & Drawings, Exciting Glass panels and dishes & Pottery teapots, planters, jugs, mugs, bowls & other bright ideas
Valerie Taylor, Ann Funston and Ann Sohn Rethel offer a colourful show including glass, innovative ceramics, lively watercolours and drawings
Ann Sohn Rethel uses red earthenware clay from Stoke on Trent. She loves the warm red colour (created by the large iron content) of the fired clay, which glows through the white slip used as a base for decoration. Colours are created using only natural mineral oxides - cobalt, iron and copper. So, all earth colours (plus a tiny bit of turquoise). Her pots are high-fired which makes them strong and dishwasher-safe. Ann likes to make pots for people to use in their everyday lives. When a pot breaks it's not a catastrophe, she says: - "come back to me for a replacement! My prices are reasonable".
Ann Funston is watercolourist and glass artist, her appreciation of colour evident in both as will be seen in this house. Few glass artists succeed, as Ann does, in creating exciting abstract or contemporary images, inspired by the landscape, using various techniques which she will be happy to discuss. Several commissioned pieces may be seen in the house, for example the front door, transformed from ordinary to quite extraordinary!
Valerie Taylor draws and paints from the landscape, enjoying working in the fresh air in watercolour and charcoal. There will be many paintings veering towards the abstract, hopefully capturing some spirit of place, at a variety of prices.
